Harp Concerto (1956) by Alberto Ginastera is one of the most challenging and eclectic concertos in the standard harp repertoire, as well as one of Maria's favorite pieces. This performance of the second and third movements were the finale of Maria's Senior Recital and the University of North Texas
Vers la source dans le bois (1922) by Marcel Tournier is an ethereal solo meant to be evocative of water flowing through an enchanted forest. This piece was the opening of Maria's Junior Recital at the University of North Texas.
One of Maria's own arrangements, this Juan Vicente Torreabla Medley (2022) feature two of his compositions: "Concierto en la Llanura" and "La Potranca Zaina". Filled with Venezuelan rhythms and extended techniques, this performance was taken from the UNT HarpBeats' Spring 2024 recital.
Every Sound a Flower (2023) is an original composition by Halie Douglas, a UNT harp studio alumni. Inspired by her patron saint, Saint Hildegard von Bingen, Halie took various of her themes and expanded upon them in her own unique way. Maria premiered this work during a UNT Spectrum Concert.
Concierto de Aranjuez (1939) by Joaquín Rodrigo was originally written for guitar. At the request of harpist Nicanor Zabaleta, Rodrigo transcribed it for harp in 1974. Due to their similar timbres, the guitar styles and themes fit beautifully onto the harp. This recording was taken from Maria's Junior Recital.
The UNT Jazz Strings Lab was featured on NBC 5 DFW as a part of the 75th anniversary of the UNT jazz program. This was filmed during my first semester as a member of the ensemble.
